Twisties
Taste: Quite sickly off the bat, with definitely chilli and soy flavours. Unfortunately, they are ay too sickly - I was really psyched for them and ended up disappointed! That classic twisties texture - sometimes they're kinda grainy but I'm a big twistie fan. They look pretty flash - classic Twistie's packaging with a spicy flare

Frito Lay
Taste: Weirdly well balanced. Inoffensive - it's a pretty mellow cheese flavour but very moreish. Texture: They are a texture mashup - Doritos crumble easy, pretzels are like iron - between these extremes is a great experience... Like trail mix. Longevity: These are pretty inoffensive - you could put away a bag and feel okay. Appeal: Some novelty with the mashup! So many snacks on the packaging!

Funny-frisch
I equate the place that this chip is positioned in to be the German equivalent of Honey Soy that features strongly in the premium Australian chip market. In a nutshell, this cup tastes most distinctly of Chinese five spice powder. It's the dominant flavour, supported by some other minor players including chili. Pretty tasty but I also found it getting a little sickly as I worked further into the bag. Chipsfrich chips are thin cut standard chips - wavy in nature.
View chip →"More pickle! Starts with the Doritos umami base but the overriding flavour is pickle. Not dill pickle; burger pickle - sweet and tangy. It hits hard and builds the more you eat. Doritos insist of trying this 'beef' flavour - it tastes overly synthetic and makes the chip feel heavier but the pickle brightness helps offset it. Classic Doritos corn chip fare, they are addictive, but not my jam."
View chip →The aroma hits when you open the bag - similar to Smith's Chicken chips and that translates to the flavour. After that initial taste, there's a distinct fenugreek flavour and the expected Felafel flavour. High salt content, and a rich spice mix. These are traditional, wavy chips. They are pretty thin - similar to Thins - and I would have liked a bit more crunch to them. About halfway through the bag I found the flavour wasn't keeping me interested. Very bold packaging… there's a lot going on.

Doritos
USA Chip - One of my all time favourite chips - until I found out it had beef powder in it. Beautiful, peppery flavour that builds gloriously with a touch of heat. That classic Dorito crunch, and coming in US-sized packages. Harder to find now in the US but make it a MUST DO on any overseas trip.
View chip →Salami/Pepperoni is the main event here, it hits early, then fades away. A bit of zing in the mix too, reasonably strong. Your classic Doritos corn chip fare - too thin to be used for dipping, and light enough that you don't get really full. I'm not sure about these ones - they end up being pretty samey, and a bit chemical in nature. Imagine eating a full packet of pepperoni to yourself... These limited edition ones are a bit gimmicky and trying a bit hard.

Fritos
Taste: A monster fried corn aerated snack - I really enjoy that corn flavour, love it in tortillas, chips, or anything. They are super more-ish and not big bold flavour. They are pretty greasy overall and it did get a bit grating on the old chompers over time. They are positioned as mid-market branding, and could easily be lost alongside other chips and cheese puff like snacks.

Doritos
Chip Nation on Tour: USA edition. The first mouthful is like eating a chicken stir fry. The heat picks up at the end and it does have the Sriracha flavour. As the label says, there is a sweetness and that is its downfall: Sriracha is an enhancer, not a dish (debatable, I hear some say) and so they are a bit too much. Classic Doritos texture and eye-catching packaging.

Cheetos
'Flaming Hot' is such an American construct, I see it lots there, often in the Frito Lay family. In these, there's no big taste but the heat is there and builds with an underlying sweetness to it... A trap, as Admiral Ackbar would say. Not bad overall. Puff texture is a trap too - they vaporise in your mouth and you're left with nothing and unsatisfied. The heat - and bright red colouring - hurt the longevity. Big bold packaging that holds up well to road wear, and the iconic cheetah.

Pringles
One thing about Pringles - they are commited to innovation, and some work, some don't - Like this one. 90% onion powder and then this weird hint of sweetness if you hold them in your mouth. They were offputting - both in short form and longevity. I really hate what's happened to Pringles - wafer thin, break easily and have no crunch. The iconic Pringle packaging is dated (the cream cheese spread knife is a bit weird looking on there). Pringles now look - and act - like a budget chip.
View chip →I have bagged Kettle's Salt and Vinegar option (relative to Red Rock) for years. The vinegar was like paint stripper, with no subtlety in flavour. With this, they are finally competitive - and what a competitor by including the crinkle cut. Legendary.

Red Rock Deli
Blows my mind that these are polarizing! This is the king of bougie salt and vinegar chips: subtle sweetness from the balsamic vinegar, delicious crunch of a kettle style chip and plenty of salt.

Doritos
Had these tonight... there is zero cheese flavour to speak of. Like Frito Scoops, they are a 'corn flour' based product, rather than corn chips so you get that pasty mouth feel (but not as bad as prawn crackers). Skip them - they will add nothing to your life nor be used for scooping!

Samboy
Nothing else tastes like Samboy BBQ - other attempts are often sickly sweet, which I'm not a fan of. Huge oregano notes, very salty, with some buried sweetness - a savoury tour de force. It's a polarising chip, for polarising times. Big crinkles and pretty good structure. Retro branding hasn't really changed in 40 years, but big and bold - tells you exactly what you're getting. Eating a bag of these will almost certainly make you feel sick, and a Samboy BBQ spew is not to be trifled with.

Tyrrells
These were mainly salty, very little cheese and very little chives. Loved the ruffled/crinkled texture, with a generous width. They're super strong and tough, best part of the chip! Be mindful though, there is reasonable risk of mouth shedding and teeth aching (like heaps of prawn crackers). Packaging looks good and premium, however end up the boring combination of too salty and too bland. All-up: High brow chips, low brow result from trying to lift up the grandparent flavour.

The Golden Duck Co.
Big flavour in a tube tin - you smell the umami from a mile away! I didn't get much seaweed - so it just be the cover for MSG! They held together slightly better than Pringles, maybe a fraction thicker but are still brittle - and once they break, it's shards. Definitely positioned as an upmarket Pringles (and priced). Eaten in shared setting but I could see myself smashing a lot of these... but I think I would regret it. There's a richness - like eating truffle - that I think would get to you.

Smith's
Like Samboy Atomic Tomato but sweeter and I can see them becoming too sickly (whereas Atomic Tomato can go for hours!). The Classic smiths crinkle cut texture - you know what you're getting! Smiths lifted their game on packaging, particularly for limited edition. After some eating, these were definitely too sickly to do a marathon on them so downgraded longevity.
View chip →Mildly salty, not like a Smith's salted and it benefits from the extra thickness in the chip but are pretty oily. They're kettle cut style, thick - it's not overboard like the Max Samboy or Doritos. I love good structural integrity. Pretty good looking bag - classic kettle high contrast look in a black background. Stood out in the aisle. These are pretty inoffensive - you could put away a bag and feel okay as there's not much intensity or punch. Everything you'd expect in a bougie salted.
View chip →I normally hate ranch or dairy-centred chips but this is really mellow and less synthetic than some others. The habanero flavour is awesome, builds on the backend but never too hot. I really rate these. Texturally, very similar to Smith's - not super thick and reasonably oily. It's an interesting looking package, almost feels a bit retro! Not shown but the photo of the guy on the back is very infomercial, and I love it. I put away a big bag of these - flavour is strong but never overwhelms
